This is very much true. Initially when I joined the industry I used to work for a product from its inception. So I was aware of what section of the code affects what part of the product. Although I hadn't worked on all of those, I kept an eye for the all the changes that were coming in. I knew where I should look immediately a bug is reported even if it is not something related to my line of work. Recently I switched teams and now I find myself taking up bugs that are only related to my line of work. Not being familiar with the codebase decreases productivity and wants you to rely on other people in the team for most of the time. |
