Depending one what one means by "usage" I have connected iCloud and Obsidian to 10+ year old Macs. Sure, I can't air drop, screen support, etc. All of those features and updates you generally want on your 'new' system. But as far as booting and running a lot of compatible legacy software, browsing, email... what most people use a computer for... you could pick up any fair condition Mac from the last 10 years and chances are it will work for most things (without Linux).
