This is a very meandering article without a lot of content, but as near as I can tell this quote near the end is the thesis: > Local ai apps are how you get around the legacy permission system of the internet and set AI automation free. This is an overly dramatic way of saying that OpenAI wants their local app to be a first class user agent rather than just another sandboxed website. This isn't really an end run around the web's permission system, it's very much an explicit part of the security model. Users trust a small handful of programs to be their agent interacting with bunch of content that they don't necessarily trust. If OpenAI wants to make an entry to try to become one of those trusted user agents, more power to them! We can always use more competition in the user agent space. |
