I deleted my then-active Facebook account at the end of 2023 without issue.

Last week I found out via an email about AI @ Meta that I still have an old account, which I don't have the password for, but still have access to the email address. I tried contacting support, and 8 days later, it's not going well.

I know there are properly humans in the background answering but conversing with an llm wouldn't be worse than what you qre going through.
Report them to the privacy regulator in your country using the conversation as evidence.
That's exactly the plan if it's not resolved soon. I intend to make a formal complaint following the Australian Privacy Commissioner's process[1], and if it's not resolved, then a complaint to the Privacy Commissioner.

Unfortunately Australia's right to be forgotten is pretty weak[2] unlike in Europe. The law reform commission recommended changing up the Privacy Act to extend to deletion but it was never implemented. Nonetheless organisations must destroy or de-identify personal information when it is no longer required.

I'm not really sure how this one's going to go. I guess Facebook will probably just delete the account before it goes to the commissioner. If it goes to the commissioner I have no idea if they'll accept my reasoning for Facebook to delete my account or not. Facebook might argue they still have use for my personal information. The commissioner may reject my complaint for various reasons and they are not really obliged to investigate it.
