Controlling population growth is mostly a red herring. In most countries births have already peaked. We can be quite sure that the total population will peak also quite soon. Also, any action taken would require many decades to show any difference. Climate change requires decisive action effective within the next 20 years. But more importantly: the creation of CO2-Emissions is very unevenly distributed. Even if there were only 1 billion humans on the planet, if they emitted as much carbon as the average US citizen, climate change would still be an issue. So the one action to take is carbon-neutrality. Fortunately, we have all the necessary technologies, we need to strongly push for their global rollout. |
