IMHO, it's pretty useful to have some consistency across a large organization. That way lessons learned can be applied broadly, and you can pull in people from elsewhere to work on hard problems, etc. It doesn't necessarily need to be one way to do things worldwide, but you probably don't need to support 5 server operating systems, 7 http servers, and 35 languages in production. |
