That's where future markets come in. The producer won't get negative prices on shiny days. The consumer won't pay through the nose on rainy days. The marginal producer doesn't matter with a prenegotiated price. This derisks both sides letting both of them build without worrying about the market moving against them and rendering their capital investments worthless. |
