Wow, what a great summary! I was a little put off by your initial political commentary in the first comment, but this is exactly what is happening. The point about the water thin OW oil is exactly on the nose. Oh you save $300 in gas a year, but got an $80 oil change how many times? And people are buying brand new Japanese cars, since they see 20 year old ones still kicking, but time will tell. HN crowd of course is interested in all the computer-on-wheels aspect, but the basic hardware is being stretched to the limit because gasoline has a finite energy density and a practical limit on combustion efficiency. So it’s just pushing the costs under the rug. And there is most definitely a corrupt relationship with the whole “fleet average” thing. |
