Sure but a mindset that is dominant enough to influence the direction of research can reasonably be expected to persist - even though there's turnover in the field.

If you entered academia in 2000 when this became the newly accepted wisdom you'd be around 50 now.

Hardly. Want time to go slow? Care for 5 kids + disabled spouse on your own. It makes regular years seem like mindset years.
