I'm both an apple and openai fanboy. I love apple because great design, software and privacy. I think openai's rate of innovation is unbelievable. But a partnership makes me nervous.

I just don't trust openai with the data on my phone. The board ousted their CEO. Their top scientists left. They clearly broke copyright laws to train their models.

I'm ok using their apps, but I worry that as they move fast and break things, they will do something with data that gives us all pause. I'd prefer that's not baked into my phone.

I was a big fan of Apple and Wolfram back when they rolled out their big Siri integration. The optics at the time was basically the same; Apple was on an unstoppable roll, and in 10 years they'd have the competition in the dust.

Well, here we are 10 years later. Siri is the butt of every automation-based joke and Wolfram's software division is like a terminally-ill patient that keeps paying the hospital to keep them alive. An OpenAI integration can only end the same way, the proverbial next-generation Butterfly Keyboard that we'll all inevitably bitch about until Apple writes a puppy-eyed apology to the press.

Part of me worries that this will be a test of which company is less-competent, and we're going to be shocked at how low they both stoop.
