I'm not sure that's true though. It's always been more trivial to doctor a screenshot, even just editing a webpage in dev tools prior to taking a screenshot.

And yet people reshare and react to screenshots of tweets and similar all the time. The authenticity is only really questioned if it strongly goes against whatever narrative one already believes. And then that ability to fake them also gets used to dismiss legitimate honest information because it could have been faked.
