The home page does somewhat assume that the reader knows what "Loom" is -- if I'm not already a Loom user, that's pretty much instructing me to go look at Loom first because it's obviously the market leader in whatever-it-does.

From context, I'm guessing it's not about textile manufacture?

Me too, especially because it was quite groundbreaking at the time with its dynamic music engine.

And I think various open source engines, reimplementations or examinations of the original have been posted a to HN a few times over the years to a lot of positive comments as people remembered the original. I assumed this was another along the same lines.
