We're doing too little, too late to stave off disaster. That's not surprising. Now I'm a glass half full kind of guy so let me point out the potential upsides. Yes, the ecosystem is going to be less than desirable for a few centuries. Yes, there are going to be hardships to endure - perhaps, sadly, the death of 20% to 40% of humanity. BUT - and this is the point - the current political regime will be overthrown. Revolutions are easy when you have nothing to lose. Tooday's "leaders" and political systems will be deposed of - when it's plain for all to see that our leaders and political systems today have failed us. Since the ecology is going to be screwed-up for hundreds of years, it will allow plenty of time for these lessons to settle deep in our collective conscience. Meanwhile, this is gonna suck. |
