Second Life is still a thing, or OpenSimulator if you really do want to do it all yourself :)

FWIW, SL is finalizing the addition of PBR textures now and may go further WRT scene imports.

I know one shouldn't judge an entire community like this, but every interaction I've had with SL has been... strange, to put it lightly. Still, I have a lot of respect for those devs and their commitment to the game

OpenSimulator looks like a cool idea too!
