Most people are risk-averse not necessarily because rejection sucks, but because they now have a family/many more responsibilities. It would be nearly impossible for me to do what you did at this point in my life (pick up everything and move 500 km away).

However, I did just this a decade ago, before I had kids. I picked up everything and moved to Asia. One of the best decision I ever made.

I commented something sort of similar - Am curious though (I believe I'm younger than you), do you now feel you take less chances like the email/call route? (Would you say you do less of his approach w/calling for that job, or the business school thing?)
yep, that’s the right answer I think. See what I said: big shots don’t HAVE to be disruptive like relocating the family to a foreign country. (Though many people do that every day)

Though you can take big shots that still preserve your family. Big shots don’t necessarily have to be risky.
