If you're price sensitive then you can consider Fremont - it is located right on Bart, you can get into the city easily, and it is very inexpensive compared to living in SF or even Mountain View. However, you'll need a car if you are frequently traveling to the peninsula (Mountain View, Palo Alto, ect).

If you go with Fremont, you'll get a better price and more spacious accommodations. I live there currently and find it to be a great area to live in.
