In my experience SSH traffic is blocked quite regularly by corporate firewalls.

Do you mean the protocol, or just port 22?

Both. Some less sophisticated network gear might allow you to connect to an SSH server on port 80 for example. But usually you’ll have a traffic inspecting firewall that isn’t fooled that easily.
