| Title should be “information trustworthiness on Social Media stays about the same as it always has been” I don’t think GenAI is the problem, what we are seeing is the social media snake eating its own tail. Nothing has changed about the way information needs to be verified over the course of human history. You find the source, make a decision if it’s trust worthy. With the development of addictive algorithms, that verification effort would take us out of the dopamine hook for too long and they knew this. They profited off of it, harvested our data and eroded our critical thinking skills and attention spans. People were leaving social media before GenAI, and thefore losing money for shareholders. Less people, less engagement, less data.
If you all remember Meta was in some deep shit before GenAI. Sock Puppets started taking over, either by the platform itself, nation states, scammers, and advertisers. All of them drove profits and were never delt with. because they let their platforms become some AdTech, Five Eyes non-kentic battlefield fueld by mass populations in a dopamine drug addiction they have to allow GenAI bots. Because if they were banned, major portions of their revenue stream would be lost, and or no artificial engagement will exist and real users accounts will plummet and shareholders will be pissed. GenAI came to fast for us, and to
