Schmidt Ocean Institute (which owns/operates Falcor (too)) is an awesome nonprofit supporting a lot of really fascinating and impactful oceanographic and environmental research. There's another nonprofit in this space, Inkfish.

They have a highly advanced deep sea research vessel called the Pressure Drop, and another called the Hadal Exploration System.
