The folks that live the longest in your studies were all born at the beginning of the tumultuous 20th century rather than some optimal fishbowl experiment. If, for example, one of them was visiting a market in NYC around 1924 it is unlikely that bananas were on offer. Much has changed in what we eat and how it is produced and an infinity other confounding factors. Science does not put forth an "optimal diet" to begin with. It is unlikely there exists such a thing but rather diets carry various tradeoffs for differing populations. |
