How does this affect Mac users who had the vulnerability?

The backdoor had a check to only affect .dem and .rpm based distros. macOS /should/ be fine.

Brew was installing the affected version 5.6.1 of `xz`. They have in meantime rolled back the version to 5.4.6 There's not enough information yet to know for sure what the effect is / was on systems running the backdoored version.
