Ask HN: How can I make legally valid Terms and Conditions and a Privacy Policy
1 points by parker_at_large 819 days ago
I have a web app that I've created and published to the internet.

I've made a short Terms & Conditions document, along with a Privacy Policy. New users are obliged to agree to both when creating an account. I question whether these documents are legally valid, since I wrote them myself without following any specific structure.

Is there a way to make legally valid versions of these documents? What is the best way to approach this in order to ensure I am not legally liable for anything innapropriate that users publish to my site?

I've used https://www.termsfeed.com/ but there are many such generators available which cost very little.
Find a lawyer. Its literally in their job description.
This. And without a paying lawyers, they don't matter anyway because paying a lawyer is the only way to enforce them.
[I am not a lawyer]

Your terms and conditions don't side-step liability to third parties. At best they might allow your lawyer to toss out lawsuits by people who agreed to them.

If your servers host problematic bits, you're going to need lawyers.

Good luck.
