I use an extension called histre, https://histre.com/ for annotation and keeping up with _notes_ / _thoughts_ inline. I found that using tools like Fermat's Library, which provides side bar annotation, histre for inline highlight, annotation and multi-references, and ChatGPT to understand complex terms, all helped with understand recent papers. I tried Google Scholar after this comment. Google Scholar PDF is a valuable addition to the research community. There isn't any tool that can give direct hyperlink to the references in the research paper, and this does it, as inline hover, and it is incredibly useful to navigate and follow the references.
