@dang, the linked article appears to be close to a clickbait blogspam post trying to capitalize on Cybertruck/Tesla hate. From the title to the opening meme/image (which is all most will see) to the selective editing of the source material, it seems to have a strong negative bias.

The Electrek article simply copy/pastes a far more nuanced review which can be found here: https://www.cybertruckownersclub.com/forum/threads/basecamp-...

Based on the general low quality discussion in this comment section (clearly many didn't read the article and even fewer read the original post), Electrek did a good job of riling people up. Doesn't seem like a great Hacker News thread though.

The original post has a nicely balanced conclusion that is overall missed by 98% of the commenters:

> my overall take on the Basecamp is similar to my take on the CT in general: it’s awesome and brilliant in many ways but flawed in a few areas... the jury is still out on the Basecamp because I’m not yet convinced that the brilliant elements outweigh the areas that need improvement.

@dang doesn't do anything - I only noticed this comment by accident. If you want reliable message delivery, emailing hn@ycombinator.com is the only way.

I take your point about the OP drawing from another source, but it's too late to switch the link on this thread now as the discussion has already been filled up with reactions to the provocations of the current article. It's a classic flamewar topic, of course, and those tend to produce poor comments no matter which side of the flamewar people are on.

It's annoying clickbait in that it's suggesting it doesn't look like the promo videos that came out in the past half year. Of course it may not look like a literally photoshopped concept photo from however many years ago. It does look exactly like the promotional videos from half a year ago.

It's also telling that this is low effort blogspam because it doesn't even touch on the most critical flaw: the lack of ability to use the cabin's AC and heater to cool and heat the tent.
