'Hippies' aren't really known for activism or violent crimes, in my opinion. The article states environmental activist groups protesting nearby distanced themselves from the arson attacks, which is more in line with what 'hippies' would do.

There’s a big difference between an eco terrorist and a hippie. Hippie is a lifestyle whereas eco terrorist isn’t unless you’re Chevron, Exxon Mobil, Shell, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Russia, BP, or the United States government and armed services.
