Even if they cut collisions by 50% or more, if they more than double the cost of the ones that still happen, it’s a wash. Still worth it, likely, because saving lives doesn’t really have a dollar amount (cue fight club) - but certainly there. Old steel bumpered cars would have zero costs at 0-5 mph collision; plastic breaks even at nearly zero. But the newer car safety is much higher. |
