It sounds like there aren't weird Hollywood conte t protections on display port.

My guess is that it's not a technical or even a user experience issue. It's probably a money issue with the deals tv manufacturers make with the media industry.

i.e. Netflix won't allow their app on a device that can circumvent HDCP.

I have 3 monitors, all connected via DisplayPort, and the nvidia control panel says they are HDCP capable. But I'm not sure I've ever used anything that requires HDCP to confirm it (and hope never to).
