Ask HN: How are you finding C2C contracts or high paid freelance work
3 points by sodiumtech 843 days ago
What are some good direct/indirect ways to find freelance or c2c tech work. Mainly that kind of work where you just provide your service and get paid. My domain is Cloud/DevOps and I have recently left my full time job to get some freedom. So just curious how others guys are hunting these kind of work.

If you can get taken on by a reputable agency that can give you work that eliminates a lot of marketing, sales, invoicing, and writing contracts.

If I had to find cloud admin/infrastructure work now, I would call companies that offer those services to small/medium businesses and ask if they had overflow. Google for "[city] IT consulting" for leads, look at the web site, email or (I think better) call. The idea is to work with established consultants who have found customers rather than try to compete with them. In my experience most of those places always need good people.

I had to move cities in the US in a hurry once (laid off) so I contacted IT support/consulting companies in the destination city, got a gig on the second call and ended up doing a lot of work for them. Not long after I moved a friend told me about a company he had worked with doing the same kind of thing, put me in contact with the owner, I got more work.

Thanks for the reply. Can you name any agency in US, UK or EU which you have worked with and was good
10X Management represents me, for nine years now. I recommend them but not sure who they're taking on.

I don't speak for 10X, everything here my opinion, not theirs.
