Are there enough dedicated consumer electronic reviewers to bootstrap the same kind of thing in that space?

Exactly. Even for movies, the Rotten Tomatoes we knew is gone. New movies don’t get as many reviews and some of them are clearly biased. A good rotten tomatoes score doesn’t mean a whole lot today.
