As non american, I can't relate to this article. Such a niche problem. All our cart's are with coins - can't remember when I got broken.

Same here. Carts are often even free but there is no visible broken cart issue worth talking about here.

The article is greatly exaggerating. It's been years since I've encountered a broken cart.
