General thought brought about by TFA, not commenting specifically on TFA. Lately I've been wondering about contemporary expressions of opinion. When I was much younger these was a oft-used chestnut 'Opinions are like assholes; everyone has one'[0]. To my mind, one's opinion was an entry point to a journey of dialogue, not a terminus. I get that the level of effort to post one's opinion is low, and the resultant distribution high. Why do we think our opinion should be widely disseminated? Does the world need to know my opinion on a topic, or is posting motivated by other factors, e.g. vanity? [0] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Opinions_are_like_ar... |
