It may be worth checking with your local library. I recently found out I can get the Wall Street Journal for free through there (along with several other papers if I’d like). Every few days I need to go to a website and enter my library card number, but I’m ok with that.

I think a focus on quality journalism should be a prime focus. Basically, go for a news organization that has leaned into tech, rather than a tech company pretending to be a news outlet.

They do have an app. I don’t personally use, but my dad has used it extensively since its release many years ago.

I haven’t tested the library based subscription with the app, but it seems like it would work, as I have a WSJ login via the setup at the library.
