Though I ideologically love where Saito is coming from, degrowth feels functionally too much of an antipattern. Is that too cynical?

Probably? It’s true that lots of people strenuously criticise degrowth. But in my experience, they’re not engaging with what degrowthers propose: they’re strawmanning it.
