I have two cents. “Expert” can mean a few different things. On the one hand, it can mean expertise in the knowledge pertaining to the field. On the other hand, it can also mean becoming a part of a community of like-minded and like-interested people engaged in furthering that field and being practitioners of it. With that in mind, you might also try to get connected with other people interested in what you want to learn about, whether that’s as simple as participating in an online forum or local book club, or something more involved such as taking an academic class or joining a professional society.

Thanks for the advice. So basically, just get immersed into the world of the field as much as possible?
You may not want to jump in the deep end. But maybe take one step at a time in the directions of knowledge acquisition and community finding and you can evaluate your progress and satisfaction as you go. Best of luck!
