I'm more cynical in this. I think another bloated foundation would have taken off in another language. A lot of it comes down to accessibility to the masses. JavaScript for all of its horrors, and the self fulfilling cycle of its horrors, has a low barrier to entry. Think of anything else that's similarly easy and that's where I think effort and attention would have gone. So, if not js, I'm thinking probably in python.
