Interesting choice, although “it depends” is the obvious answer. First off, which job would you enjoy both professionally and personally - technology, work/life balance, management, colleagues, salary, other comp, vacation days, flexibility, training etc. Next up, sustainability of the businesses. Are they making a profit or how is the plan going to make a profit at some point? If not profitable, what’s the runway? How’s product/market fit? What about a history of success expanding their market? What’s the competitive landscape looking like? Some meta commentary: payments is a sucker’s game, with margins dropping year on year as more businesses enter the space. There are really very few angles for success, one of which is scale (wholesale price reduction). Is the gateway likely to be top-25 globally, or too-5 in its vertical in the next 10 years? If not, it’s either going to fail slowly, get bought by a much bigger competitor or invent a new angle to be successful, with the first two being far more likely. |
