Raspberry Pi stated in their launch blog post [1]: "We're going to ringfence all of the Raspberry Pi 5s we sell until at least the end of the year for single-unit sales to individuals, so you get the first bite of the cherry." If they were producing (conservatively) 50,000 units per week last year, that would put them at around 0.5 million units sold in single-unit quantities (10 weeks * 50k). Probably a bit more than that. At this point, I'm not sure of the breakdown, but from what Eben said in the interview (and I have no reason to believe he's lying), they should be able to continue sending out new stock to all suppliers continuously (unlike with Pi 4, where it was sometimes months between shipments to many vendors). |
