My dad composed music for major network TV shoes in the 90s. The immediate abuses of post-consolidation owners impact his royalties (or really, lack thereof) to this day. I really feel for music industry folk that came up through this. Now, they're in an era of micromarkets and small windows where they can finally make some money post-CD sales but so few of them have the knowhow to succeed in that environment.

On the other hand, check out this guy Matt Farley. He has made and published 24,000 songs. He has written a song about every city, name, thing a kid thinks is funny, every name pooping, and so on. He's streammaxing and it's working. Dude lives off of his work now and makes slasher films with his friends. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matt_Farley
