You do realise avahi-client is a standalone CLI resolver, and Avahi is what both Gnome (gvfs) and KDE (kio) use to find mDNS clients on the network? There's also nss-mdns at https://github.com/avahi/nss-mdns but it is mostly unmaintained. |
