It jumps from basic graph algorithms to unsupervised machine learning. It's a "let's put shit that sells" book.

Yeah. I really can't call RNN an algorithm every programmer should know. It may be a predecessor to deep learning (which also isn't an algorithm every programmer should know), but it's purely academic.
