This can only magnify the biases that everyone has and pretends they don't. A video will show more than "soft skills." It reveals age, gender, ethnicity, accent. It might show things in the background that some viewers will make judgments about. Few people perform comfortably in front of a camera, so either they will look nervous and awkward or coached and fake. I can't imagine hiring managers or recruiters taking the time to watch intro videos. They won't take more than a few seconds to read a cover letter and résumé now. I've had candidates send links to videos, or even DVDs in the old days, and I never bothered to look at those. |

Video is additional to the profile. So, if you select 2-3 devs based on their skills, you can watch video to weed out the guy that you like the most and invite him to the interview.
Without video, you would setup calls with all of them.
I was speaking with agency recruiters and they told me that it would be very useful.
