It’s not just what the phones give us (in terms of connectivity), it seems we’re addicted to the light itself (same with TV before).

Presumably, this is some primal sitting-round-the-fire type impulse.

I don’t think smartphones would be meaningfully less addictive if they used old school, non backlit display technology.
