In Norway you need to have a (mutual) period of notice of at least 1 month, starting at the change of month. (I.e. getting fired now means working until at least 31 Jan). Contracts usually increase this to three months. This is usually beneficial for both parties, as it gives the employer time to find replacements and the employee time to find a new job.
