X11 has IMEs -- normally used for input in languages like Japanese which do not map well to QWERTY keyboards, but they could theoretically be put to this sort of use. Wayland support for IMEs appears to be like Wayland support for darned-near anything else: kinda shaky, but getting there. Switch to Wayland and file bug reports, everybody. |
