Surely there’s a greater opportunity cost in the death of a child with their own life ahead of them than a middle aged adult?

What is lost from a dead young adult is all the investment into the person, basically 30 years worth of life experience and work gone. A dead baby is a 9 month ordeal + however long the mother will grief and the community would. However, for the young adult, it would be everyone he had a connection with and the community that would grief. So even here, the calculus doesn't make sense.

I might sound crude, but in the modern era, this is the only way to be effective. Otherwise, we would easily be swayed by the news of a white girl stuck in a well while we can easily swipe away news about hundreds of dead people from war torn zones.
