You do realize Epic is backed by one of the largest monopolistic companies on the planet right? Tencent is unmatched in many industries for their level of stranglehold and on top of that they hold controlling interests in countless other US companies to exert their influence across a spectrum of organizations.

Most people don't realize this; sometimes I believe that Epic is just being used as a proxy to disrupt the US tech industry. But, that depends on the day and whether or not I'm wearing my tinfoil hat.
