Yep, same as many other things we take for granted in modern constructions, such as accessibility, good signage, enough space on stations and tunnels for easy flow of passengers, platform screen doors, etc. It's a no brainer when building today, but wasn't back then, and retrofitting is extremely complex and expensive. |
