Where are you getting from that Altman has "fairly deep AI knowledge"? He dropped out of college after just a year and is mostly a business person. Shear at least has a BSc in CS.

The knowledge taught in a CS degree has very little relation to what OpenAI is doing.

If you go to the right faculty, then it very much does. You can write thesis about deep neural nets in CS universities, if you wish. Just like what I do now.
