I don't think it's about the money. It's probably about being hauled in front of Congress and being threatened with (essentially) nationalization again and again.

I can't think of any major company in the US that has been forcibly nationalized in the past 30 years, excluding failed banks.

Texas and Florida have passed laws putting the states in control of content moderation.
