The amazing stuff often has certain level of challenge, excitement, and reward behind it that compensates for the long feedback loops. It's not necessary for sure, but it sure is nice!
Right. My assertion would be that, if you internalize the work, you can do far more mentally than you can physically. As such, if you can work a lot of the exploration and experimentation mentally, you can't beat that feedback loop.
Now, integrity of signal is obviously a problem there. If you have a problem in your mental execution, you are likely to miss it. So, you do have to do some physical experimentation. But, for prose and the like, you don't have to type as you think.
